Daily Prompt: Ripped Into the Headline

This weekend marked the end of my doctor prescribed “month of torture.” Four weeks of daily doses of gluten after four YEARS abstaining from anything remotely resembling it and I’m feeling and LOOKING like the Pillsbury Dough Boy! For details, check out my earlier post: Holy Hellacious Headache, Batman

My birthday marked the celebratory end to this very, very, long month. I spent my last GLUTEN FILLED day indulging in favorite things I’ve DENIED for almost half a decade.

As miserable as I’ve been, I WILL miss these coma causing cheesesteak sandwiches! After eating just one half of these fabulous things, found me asleep in my chair, pants unbuttoned, belly bloated, the perfect impersonation of that hilarious ”after Thanksgiving meal” picture, we took of my brother in law.

Being “pushed” to eat more!

I LOVED, DEVOURED, and often OVERINDULGED in cake on many a past birthday! My 1st birthday cake in my 40s looked amazing and my plan was to EAT FOUR YEARS WORTH… I tapped out early! My son, we’ll call him the “pusher,” was there cheering…urging… HECKLING! I will hear him for years to come in my sugar/gluten filled nightmares, “I’ll put a bucket under your chair, Come on just one more piece! You can do it!”

Today life returns to my NORMAL. Back to the nuisance of reading labels, previewing menus of restaurants before going out, giving cakes, cookies, bread the “no thank you,” wave, and I couldn’t be happier! It’s the GLUTEN FREE LIFE FOR ME! For anyone wondering if gluten is a problem for them, check out: The Yeast Connection. It’s an EYE OPENER!

On another “Bucket” note, my family brought me one step closer to the number one item on my “BUCKET LIST.” I’m not sure what made them do it, perhaps it was momentary weakness brought on by my month of misery. It could’ve been one of those mass moments of temporary insanity, or maybe they could blame the moons/tides/misalignment of the planets… For whatever reason, they presented me with an electric DRUM SET.

Rock ON!

It might only be a tiny set, but it added fuel to my drumming fire! So, my family better GRAB THEIR EARPLUGS, my bucket list is now REALITY!
